Silver Apples "Dancing Gods" (5:57)

20JAZZFUNKGREATS.BLOGSPOT.COM: I am such a fan of the Silver Apples I have made a colourable poster of them for the next Do zine. Just listen to any of their tunes and feel the power of a drum, or a brotherhood of drums being played by a single body with a beat and a drone that will live on forever, you should see the crowd react like One each time we play them at The Do...

Suicide were surely paying attention.

Although the original drummer, Danny Taylor, sadly passed away a year ago, the Apples' spirit lives on not only in their music but also in the burning hearts of those young stalwarts who follow their metronomic path and stand up to be counted, by us, for once, yeah, say, Oneida, or Liars (who we will be enjoying tomorrow thursday at ULU in London, God bless Howard and Liz), or Caribou, or Chromatics or Klaxons or Les Aus , or a few other, for example...

A.R.E. Weapons "Keys, Money, Cigarettes" (3:06)

20JAZZFUNKGREATS.BLOGSPOT.COM: One of the lucky few bands that escaped the nuclear fallout of Electroclash, A.R.E. Weapons have a new EP out! We love the Weapons cos they come on like a group of Escape From New York prisoners that live underground fronted by none other than 1FG (judging by the picture), or maybe a biker gang from Fist Of The North Star (the baddies obviously), fronted by that big baddie who's skin turns to metal and when he hits a mountain he goes straight through it WOAH!

It's the sound of the band cruising through the smouldering wastelands of demolished New York hand-in-hand with Death, looking for some hot (mutated) babes and some broke-ass fools to explode some heads. They snarl, they squeal, plus, if you're not careful, they'll come up close to you and flap their arms about ninja style then 10 seconds later you'll be spraying blood from all your joints!

Ok, coming to the end, so I have to mention Suicide (its like, in the contract or something). But this isn't reprocessed Suicide homage, its Metal Urbain on uppers covering Depeche Mode after swiping Nitzer Ebb's keyboards, and where as Suicide were more subtle - a throb not a squeeze, A.R.E. Weapons come on like a kick in the face from a steel-capped boot (that explodes your head).

The new Ep is exclusively available from the band's website.

Portobella "Freakin In Stereo (A-Side Mix)" (8:04)

FLUXBLOG.ORG: I had been putting this song off all week because I can't seem to find accurate information about it anywhere. I'm not even 100% certain if this is the same Portobella that did Fluxblog favorites "Vive La Difference" and "Covered In Punk." But you know what? It just doesn't matter who it is, only that it's this sort of mindblowing disco meltdown that offers both instant satisfaction every step of the way and delayed gratification by waiting nearly three minutes before dropping its second killer hook. Do you know more about this track? Please let me know in the comments box!

The Pipettes "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me" (2:14)

FLUXBLOG.ORG: Though it's not quite as magical or as funny as "Dirty Mind," this new single from the Pipettes keeps up their impressive run of singles. As with its predecessor, the craft in the songwriting and production remains strong enough to make the record seem more like a girl group hit that arrived several decades too late rather than just silly kitsch. Sure, the kitsch is there and cannot be denied, but that "and you might cry / for some time" hook is too gorgeous and heart-melting to be written off so easily.
