Van She "Kelly (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix)"

20JAZZFUNKGREATS: Its big, its 80's, and it starts with all the dramatic mood setting of a good John Carpenter piece, then turns into some 'Won't Get Fooled Again' era Who with an annoyingly catchy Xanadu-style ELO vocal and a thumping French filtered house nod to Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman'.

Its like Gary IV's looped disco soft rock wet dream of a song all in one pulsating tune. No apologies. Not a guilty secret, just a really good example of that stuff. So middle of the road its almost Soulwax for Radio 2 in the afternoon, perfect for doing the washing up too or making a nice cake while singing along. I must stop taking these valium.

The Hospitals "Sick Bird" (1:46)

20JAZZFUNKGREATS: This monster is a particularly evil one, it's so hardcore it actually chews the bone of its victims and leaves the flesh for the vultures, witnesses of its actions report that it resembles an innocent american farmer girl covered in mousetraps who is into pneumatic drill lobotomies, starting with herself.Dr Kudo says, The Shaggs hatched this monster after mating with a Suicide cock, the little creature was subsequently abandoned and raised by a school of Electric Eels. No wonder it finds it hard to adjust to the behavioural patterns demanded by the good society, it's definition of the good life includes activities such as the zapping of burgeouis scuba diver genitalia.

Park Attack "Toes" (4:58)

20JAZZFUNKGREATS: This monster is quite gnarly in a sweet way. Let me rephrase this. No. This monster it's so gnarly and fast it ran around the planet like a hairy glaswegian version of Superman in order to travel to the past and push the proverbial granny under a big bus she had managed to dodge in the normal space-continuum. Not sweet. But the granny was a super-evil bitch and had it coming. If she hadn't been taken out then the sick birdy would have died. Long story.Dr Kudo says, erm, yes, this monster shows the typical traits of a beat combo exposed to excessive subconscious no wave zaps, a bit like that beatnik child whose head Gene Kruppa confused for some bongos, for several years. Results: twitching, slight tourette of the half japanese modality, bass addiction, it should have never been granted access to modern technology, it is dangerous enough with a stone, lethal with a moog. This is but an outburst of the glorious half past human adventure recently released by Textile Records, and yes, the rest of the album is as good as this, buy it and burn.

Uffie "Pop The Glock (Original Mix)" (3:26)

FORCEDEXPOSURE.COM: Are you ready to Uff?? She just turned 18, she's from Miami, she survived a typhoon! Uffie discovered hip hop in the land of dirty south, she never got rid of it. A few years ago she moved to Paris ended up in the fashion world. She booked DJ Feadz for a show, then fell in love. A couple of years later, Feadz asked her to do some vocals for his forthcoming project. Uffie was born and now it's just the beginning! Welcome to Ed Banger records' first female artist: Uffie. That girl knows the score, she got produced by supa hot frenchies Feadz (Bpitch) & Mr Oizo (Fcom), the remix is homemade (and pretty HOT) by Sebastian.

FLUXBLOG: It might be a bit of an understatement to say that Uffie isn't a particularly good rapper. There's a certain charm to her vocals, but it's essentially the kind of amateurish rapping that you can't get away with unless you happen to be a very pretty girl. But really, the rapping on this track is a total MacGuffin. It's there to carry the song along and provide context, but the appeal of the track lies in the way the time-lagged vocoder ghosts her vocals, and how the woozy beat is entirely at odds with her party-centric lyrics. It all comes together to sound roughly like listening to a pop song on the radio while you are thoroughly zoned out.

Circle Square "Fight Sounds" (5:23)

OUTPUTRECORDINGS.COM: Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Circlesquare is acclaimed artist and musician Jeremy Shaw's sonic incarnation, who's Fight Sounds EP is a 30 minute, 8-track journey into Shaw's continued exploration of subculture, noir, and narcotics. Combining a myriad of audio and visual talent, the Fight Sounds EP provides a more upfront, post-industrial edge than Circlesquare's previous releases, with Shaw appearing less smacked out and more cranked up than ever before. [Another creme-de-la-creme tip from DJ Kjeld Tolstrup, ed.]
